Roof Coating Claims
What is a Roof Coating?
A roof coating is a type of paint which can come in various colours. The manufacturer of the product advertises it for decorative purposes only and they haven’t been tested for any other benefits, besides making a roof more aesthetically pleasing.
How Do I Know I Have a Roof Coating Claim?
Sales teams cold-call home-owners and use high-pressure sales tactics to convince them to purchase a roof coating. In some cases, they offer ‘one day’ special discounts or government grants. The company claims that these special coatings will increase the life of the homeowner’s roof and make promises such as improved thermal efficiency, waterproofing, and no moss regrowth.
Ordinarily, homeowners would refuse the product on offer. However, when these rogue traders start telling people that their roofs are on the verge of collapse and can only be saved by having this product applied, it is understandable that so many people have gone ahead with having it done.
The UK government refuses to offer free grants for roof coatings because they simply do not work, according to independent building surveyors. So, instead of seeing improvements homeowners were promised, a number of problems occur. These include broken roof tiles, leaking roofs, moss regrowth, and flaking coatings. Ultimately, ending up with more damage than they began with.
